Setting up an instance
Baselines
Section titled “Baselines”Every write that goes through a “sitting” (which, per the user guide, is nearly everything, see that page if the word is new) needs an active baseline row to attach to. Setting up the instance (see Installing and upgrading) creates one for you automatically, named “Initial baseline,” in apply then review mode, at the same time it creates the first administrator. A normally-provisioned instance is therefore usable immediately; you do not need to do anything extra before an administrator can create a workstream or make any other ordinary plan change.
Creating a baseline is also how you choose which of the two change-review modes your instance runs under:
- Apply then review (what a new instance starts in), a change takes effect immediately; a reviewer checks it afterwards.
- Hold until approved: a change is held as a proposal until it’s approved; it never touches the live plan if rejected.
Switching modes and starting a second baseline both have a screen. Go to Admin, Settings, which lists existing baselines and creates a new one with the review mode you choose. Use the screen in preference to the API call below.
Activating a new baseline automatically supersedes whichever one was active. There is no separate step to retire the old one, and nothing is lost: every past baseline, and everything recorded against it, stays exactly as it was.
If changing the plan looks entirely unreachable and the setup was not completed in the normal way, check that the instance has an active baseline on Admin, Settings. Without one, every plan-changing write is refused with no explanation on screen.
Programme name, currency, locale, financial year, budget
Section titled “Programme name, currency, locale, financial year, budget”These live in one set of instance settings: programme name, currency
(e.g. GBP), locale (governs date and number formatting), the month the
financial year starts, the default day rate used when a person has none of their
own, the overall budget envelope, and whether a sign-off stage requires a
different person from whoever did the work (see
Status, sign-off and approval).
All of this has an administration screen: Admin, Settings. The programme name, currency, locale, financial year start, budget envelope and the separation-of-duties toggle are all editable there, and every change is audited.
The default day rate also has its own screen and route (Finance), see Money in the user guide.
There is no timezone setting and no holiday calendar, and the working week is fixed at Monday to Friday.
Licence
Section titled “Licence”See the dedicated licensing page, installing, replacing, and reading a licence file is the one piece of instance-wide configuration that does have a real screen (the account menu’s Licence page).
